The people who enjoy the greatest financial and personal success in
life are those who build lasting relationships with business associates,
friends, co-workers, and others. They take the time and trouble to stay
in touch, and they make sure that when someone does a good deed for
them, they respond in kind. Build your network of personal and
professional friends by taking the initiative and being a friend.

OFFER RESULTS, NOT ALIBIS.
Bowery men waiting for bread in bread line, New York City, Bain Collection (Photo credit: Wikipedia) |
There are many people who perhaps with the best of intentions make
promises they somehow never get around to keeping. These folks have
usually developed a number of perfectly plausible explanations for not
meeting their commitments; they have become experts at explaining away
their failures. Successful people, though, are those who accept
responsibility for their lives. They know that talk is cheap; actions
are all that really matter.
The world is waiting for men and women who seek the opportunity to
render real service the kind of service that lightens the burdens of
their neighbors, the kind of service that 95 percent of people do not
render because they do not understand it. When you provide a truly
useful service, enthusiastically and in a spirit of genuine helpfulness,
success will automatically follow. The world seeks out such individuals
and rewards them accordingly.

THOSE WHO CREATE GOOD FELLOWSHIP AMONG OTHERS WILL NEVER BE SHORT OF FRIENDS.
If you have a friend who goes out of his way to help cement
friendships between others, consider yourself fortunate indeed. In
today’s frantic, mobile, throwaway society, such individuals are
exceedingly rare. With the demands placed upon us by our careers, our
families, and the hectic pace of daily life, most of us have little time
for ourselves, and even less for our friends. Yet we know that
friendship freely given and gratefully received is one of life’s
greatest gifts.

YOUR MENTAL ATTITUDE DETERMINES WHAT SORT OF FRIENDS YOU ATTRACT.
If you want to be a positive, successful person, be sure you choose
your friends carefully. Positive friends and role models will have a
positive effect upon you, while negative friends will soon kill your
initiative. Do not allow yourself to be lulled into complacency by the
masses who believe mediocrity is an acceptable alternative. Focus on the
possibilities for success, not the potential for failure. When you
doubt yourself, talk the situation over with a positive, supportive
friend. Everyone needs a boost now and again; make sure your friends are
positive, success-oriented people who always build you up, not negative
thinkers who always seem to find a way to tear you down.
